In 2019 my partner and I came home to find our trees in the back garden had been destroyed by our housing association, against our wishes and without so much as a letter or phone call to warn us. The trees had been home to many birds and countless insects. We were quite upset.

I recorded the sounds as I slowly cleared up the detritus. A ceremony of sorts. These songs are built out of those recordings - twigs; leaves; a rake... Although they are heavily manipulated on the computer, these scrapings, along with my voice, form the entire instrumentation of the album.

Two and a half years later, our garden is becoming green again - the trees are returning, as they always do and always will.
